During pregnancy, many women will experience nausea and vomiting – commonly called morning sickness although symptoms may occur at any time of the day. This can be very unpleasant and can disrupt daily life. It usually stops aIer 16-20 weeks of pregnancy. Treatments for morning sickness can vary, from diet changes to medication.
Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy (NVP) is a common condition, affecting up to 80% of pregnant women. It typically begins early in pregnancy, around weeks 4-7, peaks at the 9th week and settles in most cases by week 20. Occasionally, it may last till the end of the pregnancy. A small number of women may suffer with more severe or prolonged symptoms and require hospital treatment. NVP can be experienced in the day or at night.
